Late last summer, Alan and I spent 22 nights on the road in a dedicated effort to travel Historic Route 66 from start to finish, Chicago to Santa Monica. Eight states, three time zones and 2,448 miles. The journey continues.
When planning our Route 66 pilgrimage, Alan and I decided that there were two specific iconic motels along the Mother Road that warranted an overnight stay. We enjoyed our warm welcome at the Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumcari, New Mexico, at the end of Day #4. On Day #5, we were excitedly looking forward to our stay at the remaining “must do” – the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, Arizona. First, though, we needed to work our way through our remaining scavenger hunt items in New Mexico, and cross the border into Arizona.
