Two New Additions!

I’m interrupting our regular programming (meaning my recounting of our Minnesota and Michigan Trip) to alert you to two new additions to my sidebar.  I apologize for keeping you in suspense about our frightening experience at Lake Bemidji.  That’s up next – I promise!

In my previous post I had mentioned the World’s Largest Boot in Red Wing, Minnesota, and commented on how much we enjoyed unique stops like this.  Man-made oddities like the World’s Largest Ketchup Bottle, the Blue Whale of Catoosa and the World’s Largest Highboy represent individual stories of life in America and reflect the details of a particular company’s or region’s history or a family’s special legacy.  I find all of that fascinating.

A link to Roadside America – an excellent source of unusual attractions throughout the United States – has existed on my list of favorite places in the column to the right for ages.  I’ve just recently added a new link there to a website called Only in Your State.  A heartfelt thank you goes out to our daughter, Kyra, for this one.  She recently discovered it and quickly passed it along.  This website has tons of information on all kinds of fun things to see and do – natural and man-made attractions, museums, restaurants, lodging, hikes and festivals – categorized by state or city.  It’s an excellent resource for the intrepid explorer!  If your trip planning needs a jump start or you just want to enjoy a little day-dreaming break from reality, spend a few minutes on this visually appealing and incredibly enlightening site.  If you can’t find something that piques your interest on Only in Your State, then I tip my hat to you because you’ve seen and done it all!  Feel free to stop on over for a visit now (link HERE) or use the link on the sidebar any time in the future.  If you do visit now, be sure to come back because I want to tell you about a delightful blog I’ve been reading since I escaped from the workforce . . .

Raven & Chickadee is authored by Laurel, a fellow RVer.  Laurel’s blog is beautifully designed, her photographs are gorgeous and her posts are well-written in a gentle, thoughtful and descriptive style.  Her delightful sense of humor is evident and I truly enjoy reading about the adventures she shares with her husband, Eric, and their cat, Magnolia.  Laurel’s posts are as appealing and enjoyable as the fresh air rolling in off the ocean.  I’m actually feeling a bit guilty about not adding her blog to my list of favorites well before this.  Laurel and Eric seem to enjoy many of the activities that Alan and I favor – although they have it all over us when it comes to birding.  It wouldn’t surprise me if many of you are already big fans of Raven & Chickadee.  If, however, it’s a new-to-you blog, I do recommend that you visit and enjoy a good read (link HERE).  I’ve added Raven & Chickadee to the list of my favorite blogs in the column to the right, too, for future convenience and pleasure – yours and mine!

  1. I will shamelessly steal these links. Lord knows I love well-written blogs...and as for Only In Your State, I'm surprised it's not about ME! (As an only child, I guess I wasn't as special as I thought. Sniff.)

  3. Raven & Chickadee is a favorite blog of mine too. Even though I don't RV, I find the lifestyle so interesting and enjoy your and Laurel's stories of life on the road. Thanks for the link to Only in Your State.... I'm guessing that a state as large as California has plenty of "onlies."

    1. Janis, your comment about California piqued my interest so, of course, I had to go take a look. Apparently, California has so many items of interest that there was a need to break them down into Northern California and Southern California. Looks like you're going to be busy, my friend!

  4. Hi, Mary,
Thanks for the link. I got so wrapped up in reading all of the information on the Tennessee page, I almost forgot to come back here and thank you. I will bookmark this one for sure! Have a great week! Joe

    1. Happy to help, Joe! I'll pass your appreciation on to Kyra, too. I like that Only In Your State goes beyond the typical "10 Best" lists. It's amazing how many intriguing and unique attractions there are across the country!
