I Never Did Like Housekeeping

I love writing about the stunning destinations our family has visited and the countless memories we’ve made during our travels.  I do not love writing about cookies and copyrights and other legal gobbledygook.  But, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.

As you may have read on other blogs that are on Google’s “Blogger” platform, Feedburner (the email subscription service that sends new blog posts to your email inbox) will no longer be operating after this month.  That means that any bloggers who used the Feedburner option will be transitioning to another platform if they want to continue to offer readers the option of receiving new posts via email.

I’ve researched a number of email subscription options and found none to be perfect.  But I’ll be transitioning before my next post goes live, keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well.

If you already subscribe to posts via email, please know that I have your email address on file and will just shift you over to the new platform.  If you link to my blog via someone else’s blog on the Blogger platform, please note that I do have a concern that my blog posts will not update properly on the other blog’s “blog roll.”  Please allow me to suggest that you subscribe via email now if you wish to remain in touch, or immediately after I transition to the new email subscription platform, if you prefer.  If you do subscribe and find that you’re not receiving new posts, please check your spam folder and then contact me at reflectionsaroundthecampfire(at)gmail(dot)com if there is, indeed, a problem.

Okay, now that we got email subscriptions out of the way, let me point out the brand new page that can be found next to “About Mary” just above this post.  Yup, “Legal Gobbledygook” is just what it sounds like – no fun at all.  But I did try to make it entertaining, and I would appreciate it if you would take a gander at it.  If you’re a fellow blogger and are aware of something that I should have included but didn’t, I’d appreciate a heads up.

Okay.  Glad all that’s done.  I never did like housekeeping.

As soon as I’ve recovered from having to write about all of this legal gobbledygook stuff, I plan to share with you our first visit to Seven Points Campground, an Army Corps of Engineers facility on Raystown Lake in Pennsylvania.  I hope you'll join us for the excursion.

  1. Well, the "Legal Gobbledygook" was rather inspired, I thought. My simple implied threat about the copyright issue clearly doesn't offer enough information. I will be interested to know how you navigate through this changeover; if I can copy from someone else, it'll be just like tests in high school! (Just kidding, sorta.)

    1. Yes, well, this could very well be a situation of the blind leading the blind. Tech is definitely not my area of expertise, but I've called in an IT consultant (Alan). I'll let you know how this project turns out.

  2. Don't you just love it when they decide to "improve" and change things up? I'm still trying to get used to all the changes WordPress made and it took the joy out of blogging ... thus my much needed blogging break. Hope you're enjoying your summer. We're back in northern WI and hope to get in some new explorations, but time will tell.

    1. I'm in the middle of transitioning to Follow. It right now (with Alan at my side). Just a few items to clean up and then we'll be done (and done for). I muddled my way through the Blogger update last year, and I think it's almost safe to say I survived this change, too. Not fun, but who am I to complain about "free?"

Yes, our warm weather activities have been off to a delightful start with additional adventures on the calendar. I'll bet you and Al are happy to be in Wisconsin rather than Arizona right about now - even though the northern states have been dealt a hand of hot weather. It was good to hear from you, Ingrid - stay well, take care and enjoy your summer!

  3. Haha! You may not like housekeeping but your Legal Gobbledygook was actually fun to read. Now I'm wondering if I should put something similar (though probably not as amusing) together for my blog.

    1. Honestly, Janis, all I want to do is talk traveling and write. This kind of thing annoys me to no end. In fact, I just said to Alan while we were in the middle of transitioning to the new email subscription service, "This is making my head hurt." I don't know that the legal page was really necessary; I think it was just that I felt more comfortable outlining my position. Now, it's back to travel planning - yay!

  4. I find all of those 'housekeeping' chores annoying and hugely time consuming! It just drives me crazy when WordPress or one of the plug-ins we use makes a change which then requires me to spend hours and hours fixing the 'improvement' they made. I have a hard enough time keeping up with our blog anyway, LOL.

P.S. Sorry if you get duplicate comments from me, but I'm trying once more because my comments keep disappearing...

    1. Hi, Laurel! I've had my comments disappear on other blogs in the past and I always wonder what the heck could have happened to them. Maybe it's just the nature of the beast. Thank you for your perseverance!

Tech chores probably wouldn't bother me so much if I had more of a background in technology but, unfortunately, I don't. So I plod along and it takes forever. I will admit to doing a happy dance when it was clear that the transition was successful. There may have been a subsequent and celebratory run to the ice cream shop that day, too.
