I was not aware that today was National Ice Cream Day when I
drafted my last post on Pennsylvania’s “Pursue
Your Scoops” Ice Cream Trail. Now I
am, and so are you.
Back in 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated July as National
Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day. As if I needed an excuse. But wait, there’s more . . .
Not only is today National Ice Cream Day, but it’s my birthday,
too! How about them apples?! So, in honor of both my birthday and National
Ice Cream Day, we’re grilling for family and friends later today and foregoing
birthday cake in lieu of . . . Make Your Own Ice Cream Sundaes! Fun and Yum!
And especially appealing considering the miserable heat wave that’s
passing through the east this weekend.
Yesterday I worked up a sweat just opening the mail. (If you think I’m kidding, I’m not.) Supper was takeout chicken and a picnic by
the river complete with a shade-covered picnic table and a breeze. Ahhhh.
Yes, I know. I used this pic in my previous post. But it's SO appropriate for today! |
The short length of today’s post is brought to you by the fact
that I have some prep to take care of before everyone arrives this afternoon. But I had to take a moment to tell you about
National Ice Cream Day. If you choose to
celebrate with a cone or a cup of your favorite frozen treat, enjoy every
lick! And, if you live near a chain of
restaurants offering ice cream treats (like Baskin-Robbins and Johnny Rockets),
be sure to check out the specials they’re offering. Those of you with canine pals might want to wander
over to PetSmart. I understand that chain is offering a free sample of dog-friendly ice cream today (with a
biscuit on top!) to our best friends.
Whether you’re a fan of Death by Chocolate, plain ol’ Vanilla, or
something unusual like Nectarine & Sage, I hope you have an opportunity to get
your licks in today - enjoy every delicious bite of your treat! I know I will. Happy National Ice
Cream Day!
And, Happy Birthday to you!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joan! 🍦
DeleteHappy birthday! I, unfortunately, didn’t indulge in any ice cream goodness on National Ice Cream Day, but I will try to make up for it today. Thanks for giving me an excuse to up my sugar intake.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Janis! It was my pleasure. Since July is National Ice Cream MONTH, you have more than a week left in which to indulge and celebrate! Our daughter, Kyra, texted me with a "Yellow Cake Alert," so you can be assured that Alan and I will be visiting our local ice cream stand sometime this week.
DeleteHi, Mary,
ReplyDeleteYou've given me a great idea for something to do when the grandchildren come for a visit next week..."Make your own sundae." My only hope is that they enjoy it as much as I will. Thanks!
Oh, I bet they definitely would enjoy that, Joe! As a kid, I would have LOVED to do that with my grandparents. Just remember, there is no such a thing as too much whipped cream! Hope you and Helen have tons of fun with your grandkids!
