But Wait, There's More . . . My Second Most Favorite Road Sign Ever!

In March of 2017, Alan and I traveled to the Apache Camping Center in Everett, Washington, to purchase our new travel trailer – a Creek Side 26RLS made by Outdoors RV Manufacturing (ORV) in the mountains of eastern Oregon.  Prior to picking up the Creek Side, we stopped at ORV’s facility in La Grande, Oregon, to take advantage of their factory tour.  (It was tons of fun – and extremely educational, too!  Thanks, Kevin!)  There are some incredibly beautiful mountain passes near La Grande with sweeping views and, I imagine, a fairly good chance of picking up significant snowfall during the winter months.  So, what road sign did we see that has become my second favorite road sign of all time?  Here it is . . .

Think about that.  Doesn’t it make you wonder what dangerous, hazardous, perilous and downright frightening things the people in eastern Oregon do on occasion?  One can only hope that the sign was put up in anticipation of the remote possibility that someone might actually attempt to pass a snowplow on the right – as opposed to a reactionary measure instituted following the disastrous results of someone actually having done so.  With luck, the Oregon Department of Transportation is simply being overly cautious.  Gosh, I hope that’s the case, don’t you?!

If you’re ever traveling Interstate 84 through eastern Oregon, do consider making a brief detour to visit Wallowa Lake State Park.  (Of course, you could always stop by ORV in La Grande and say hi to Kevin, too.  Wouldn't THAT throw him for a loop?!)  Wallowa Lake is a gorgeous park with a quiet, wooded campground, and the road that leads to it provides magnificent views of the mountains around it.  But, whatever you do, please don’t pass a snowplow on the right!  I enjoy your visits and would miss you terribly!

Okay, I promise that’s it for crazy road signs – at least for the foreseeable future.  (That means until I can find another one.)  Did you notice that I added an "About Mary" page?  Look toward the left and just under the photo of the lake and kayaks at the top of the blog.  If you're a regular reader, you're probably familiar with most, if not all, of the info there.  But, especially if you're a fairly new reader, I hope you'll take a look - and please, feel free to introduce yourself in the comment section below.  In the next post, I’ll be adding another item to my Bucket List!  (Hmmm.  We still seem to be adding more than we’re crossing off.  We’ll have to work on that.)  Plus, I have a rough draft going on a post that combines Alan’s #1 passion (boating!) with my #1 passion (camping!).  Please do come back to visit at any time and be sure to drag your camp chair with you!

  1. Hi, Mary,

Loved both signs. Mammoth Cave is not that far from us, and yet, i’ve never been there. We have stayed in some very nice COE parks so thanks for the suggestion. Maybe we’ll give that one a try. We’re on the way home from a great trip along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Sad to see it end, but camp always makes great memories. See you around the campfire!

    1. So glad to hear that you and Helen had a wonderful trip, Joe! And you're absolutely right about the great memories. I'll often make a photo collage after a camping trip to put on the fridge - any time I glance at it I end up reliving those great memories. I'll bet the two of you are already making plans for your next trip - enjoy!
