In my earlier post about Pilot and Flying J travel plazas (I'll Bet You Never Took a Shower at a Flying J!), I had mentioned that Good Sam
members can save 5¢ per gallon on gas or 8¢ per gallon on diesel at most Flying
J’s and Pilots in the U.S., and 1¢ per liter on gas or diesel in Canada. Plus, Good Sam members can save 5¢ per gallon
on propane and $2.50 on dump station fees (that’s 25% off their $10.00 dump fee). But I forgot to tell you something important . . .
Be sure that you have a hard
plastic membership card from Good Sam!
To access your discount at the pump, you generally enter your credit
card followed by your Good Sam membership card.
Initially, Alan and I had a plastic coated membership card that was
basically made from heavy duty paper and this type of card didn’t work at the
pump because it had no magnetic strip on the back. When I contacted Good Sam, the
representative offered to send a newer card and we received a regular hard
plastic card similar to a credit card.
The new card worked properly at every Pilot or Flying J that offered the
gas discount.
It never occurred to me to mention that in my original post and it
was only thanks to Joe, who blogs over at Easin’ Along (link HERE) that I
thought of it today. Joe and his wife
Helen are fellow RVers, and he and I had an email conversation today about
Pilot Flying J. That’s when I thought of
the difference between the cards. So,
you can thank me for this important
little tidbit, but you really should thank Joe! (Thanks, Joe!)
Now, please go out and hit the road on my behalf and have a
wonderful time vacationing. Since we got
another 2” of snow this morning and we have rain, sleet and snow showers
predicted for much of the week, I don’t think we’re going to see good traveling
weather any time soon. So sad.
Happy travels - and don't forget your Good Sam card!
Thanks for the link to "Easin' Along." I can see why you read it: Much like yours, it is interesting, informative and very well written. This is indeed a rarity, and it will be added to my reader, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI'll tell you, Mike, I've "met" some of the nicest people since I've launched this blog - yourself included. Please do send some warm spring weather in a northeasterly direction - we could certainly use it!
DeleteMary (and Mike) Thanks muchly for the shout out to Easin' Along and thanks especially for the good words about Pilot/Flying J. It is a great company run by a wonderful and very generous family. They have given enormous support to our community, our state, and the University of Tennessee. Recently Pilot provided funds to give every football program in our county (I think 14 schools) a new synthetic surface for their football fields and new uniforms to every marching band. Just incredible...So glad you chose to do business with them. Hang in up there, that snow will melt soon and you'll be out and about. Our dogwoods are blooming now. Happy camping!
ReplyDeleteHow fortunate for all of your local students to have such a generous company headquartered nearby! Because the media seems to pump out negativity on an ongoing basis, it always warms my heart when stories like this are publicized. Thanks for sharing, Joe, and hurray for Pilot Flying J!
