Odd! I show a comment from you in late September, if that helps.

Interestingly, when a blogger uses certain platforms like WordPress, I find I have to use a different email address to have my comments get through. Using my Good Sam discount at Camping World, I can buy the Thetford made for RVs for 1.62 cents per square foot, which is slightly less expensive than Walmart. It was 1.81 cents per square foot at Wally World. (If I wasn't a member of the Good Sam Club and had to pay regular price for the Thetford at Camping World, it would cost me 2.32 cents per square foot!) So yes, we've been overpaying for see-through toilet paper for 14 years and my frugal heart is broken. As for Ryan calling in the midst of the experiment, I did it on a day when I knew both kids would be at work and Alan was out of town; otherwise, there might have been a little too much explaining to do. Although I don't have a boat, RV, or even a septic tank, I found this interesting (which may or may not give you an indication of how exciting my life is right now). I'm imagining your son calling you to help with a house project and you saying, "Sorry, I'd love to but I'm playing with toilet paper." Actually, Alan's the one who's really taking it for the team. He just realized that we're going to be using up the Cascades before we get back to the good stuff - and I bought two packs of it because I forgot to take a photo of the first one before I opened it. It looks like Scott's takes the Fan Favorite Award - you were the fourth vote today. Alan and I were both very impressed at the condition of your black tank after nine years. A round of applause for you and Al!MARYhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06717399651012721086noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5556831972810821789.post-67651034681784030002020-10-12T14:59:56.213-04:002020-10-12T14:59:56.213-04:00Thanks for taking one for the team and tackling th...Thanks for taking one for the team and tackling the burning question of which TP to use in the camper. Our RV is now nine years old and we've rarely used 'RV toilet paper'. We usually use Scott's. Considering this past summer we replaced both tank valves and while the black tank was open, we shined a flashlight up into the tank and found no signs of a pyramid. Both our tanks are spick and span. We'll continue to use Scott's and only use a good squeeze of Dawn in the black tank ... no chemicals. After nine years, our system seems to work very well.Ingridhttps://livelaughrv.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5556831972810821789.post-33173377210861456412020-10-12T11:57:48.634-04:002020-10-12T11:57:48.634-04:00That "do" or "don't" quest...That "do" or "don't" question could be applied to more than one topic. (For the record, we use our bathroom in the travel trailer just like the bathrooms at home - full use of the toilet and the shower. We do take "military showers" when we're dry camping to conserve water, and that's most of the time.) We've met people who never cook in their RV; others who always cook in their RV. We do most of our cooking outdoors, but we'll cook inside if the weather's not cooperating or we need more than two burners. We just avoid "splattery" foods so that we don't stain the wood next to the stove.

The mention of your new travel trailer reminded me . . . Will you please do me a favor and check your spam folder on your blog? I've commented on your last two posts and it seems like the comments just disappeared into cyberspace when I hit "publish." (I'm assuming you didn't blacklist me for some reason.) We fall under the side of 'don't,' as in, we don't. Liquids only is the rule of the land in our travel trailer. The reasons are plentiful - the space is too intimate to allow for 'that' type of behavior, the hassle of dealing with a black tank too annoying, and the ability of bypassing dump stations as a result too attractive.

We just purchased a new travel trailer, and we are having the circulating toilet swapped out for a cassette toilet. It is so easy to deal with, even as it will accommodate, umm, full usage shall we say, if needed.

YMMV of course!

P.S. This reply was written primarily with tongue firmly in cheek. :-)Tamarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18248579159497266955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5556831972810821789.post-57963119568585676992020-10-12T06:48:45.970-04:002020-10-12T06:48:45.970-04:00Hi, Joan! We've never worried about what toilet paper we use in the boat since we only have a porta-potty in the cabin. But we've always erred on the side of caution with the travel trailers. I have no qualms with transitioning to Scott's now - it will be a treat to walk away from what I call "low bid" toilet paper. And yes, you're right. We're not bored; it's more like overwhelmed. I convinced Alan to take a break from the retaining wall yesterday to enjoy coffee on the front porch. The leaves here seem slow to change this year, but the color is becoming more glorious every day. Love to you and Tom! Not my most sincere apology ever, but an apology nonetheless. Because I understand that those of us with a tendency toward OCD traits will tackle a challenge and tear it into tiny detailed pieces to expose the truth and satisfy our curiosity. With a topic as ludicrous as toilet paper, tongue-in-cheek was the only way to go. I found it entirely refreshing to have read this unexpected piece. It was especially helpful in seeing how the Scott brand--which we have used forever--fared in your experiment. However, I think it was you who belittled my post wherein I experimented with various brands of canned chili. Even if you were not that critic, I shall forever use this post of yours as the low point that my chili trials didn't reach (um, until later). Just kidding, of course; it was masterful and hilarious. We purchased a case of paper from a restaurant supplier, just in case...but those tiny "mis-fit" rolls go so fast that I wonder why commercial places use them! I'm so glad we now know we can use Scott in the boat or RV as well. I always hated having to look for special Marine or RV paper! Thanks for your extensive testing and for sharing results! I was thinking for a second that you must be so bored to do this, but then I realized it was more just a project away from all the other projects. (smile) Thanks again.
